Election of Chair

The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Isaiah Thorning): Good afternoon, honourable members. It is my duty to call upon you to elect a Chair. Are there any nominations? MPP Allsopp.

Mr. Tyler Allsopp: I move that MPP Lorne Coe be appointed as the Chair of the committee.

The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Isaiah Thorning): MPP Coe, do you accept the nomination?

Mr. Lorne Coe: I do.

The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Isaiah Thorning): Are there any further nominations?

Seeing none, I declare nominations closed and MPP Coe elected Chair of the committee.

Appointment of Vice-Chairs

The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): Good afternoon, honourable members. Before we proceed with the election of the Vice-Chair, I’d like to draw your attention to standing order 119(e). When there are three recognized parties, there shall be two Vice-Chairs for each committee. If the Chair of a standing committee is a member of the party forming the government, the First Vice-Chair shall be a member of the official opposition and the Second Vice-Chair shall be a member of a recognized party in opposition to the government other than the official opposition.

It is now my duty to entertain a motion for the First Vice-Chair. Are there any motions? MPP Wong-Tam.

MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam: Thank you very much, Chair. Welcome to your new post here.

I will proudly move a motion to have MPP Catherine Fife be appointed as the First Vice-Chair of our committee.

The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): Are there any other nominations? No? Okay. A motion has been moved. Is there any debate on the motion? All right.

A motion has been moved by MPP Wong-Tam. There isn’t any debate. Seeing none, are the members ready to vote?

Shall the motion carry? Clerk, the motion is carried.

It is now my duty to entertain a motion for the Second Vice-Chair. Are there any motions? MPP Allsopp, please.

Mr. Tyler Allsopp: I move that MPP Karen McCrimmon be appointed as Second Vice-Chair of the committee.

The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): A motion has been moved by MPP Allsopp. Is there any debate? Seeing none, are the members ready to vote?

Shall the motion carry? The motion is accordingly carried.

Appointment of subcommittee

The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): I will now entertain a motion for the appointment of the subcommittee. Who will move this motion? MPP Allsopp, please.

Mr. Tyler Allsopp: I move that a subcommittee on committee business be appointed to meet from time to time at the call of the Chair or at the request of any member thereof to consider and report to the committee on the business of the committee;

That the presence of all members of the subcommittee is necessary to constitute a meeting; and

That the subcommittee be composed of the following members: the Chair as Chair, MPP Monica Ciriello, MPP Catherine Fife and MPP Karen McCrimmon; and

That substitution be permitted on the subcommittee.

The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): Any discussions or comments, please? If none, I will now put the question. Shall the motion carry? It’s carried.

Is there any further business before we enter closed session for a briefing by committee staff? I note none. We will now move into closed session.

The committee recessed at 1306 and later continued in closed session.
