Election of Chair

The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Tanzima Khan): Good morning, everyone. Honourable members, it is my duty to call upon you to elect a Chair. Are there any nominations? MPP Dowie.

Mr. Andrew Dowie: I move that member Aris Babikian be appointed as Chair of the committee.

The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Tanzima Khan): Thank you, Mr. Dowie.

Does the member accept that nomination?

Mr. Aris Babikian: I accept.

The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Tanzima Khan): Are there any further nominations?

There being no further nominations, I declare the nominations closed and Mr. Babikian elected as the Chair of the committee. Kindly come and take the chair.

Appointment of Vice-Chairs

The Chair (Mr. Aris Babikian): Good morning, everyone. Thank you for your trust and confidence in me and appointing me as your Chair.

Standing order 119(e) states that where the Chair is a member of the government party, the First Vice-Chair shall be a member of the party forming the official opposition and the Second Vice-Chair shall be a member of a recognized party in opposition to the government other than the official opposition.

With that, it is my duty to call upon you to appoint the First Vice-Chair. Is there any nomination? Go ahead, MPP Bourgouin.

Mr. Guy Bourgouin: I’d like to nominate my colleague Sol Mamakwa as First Vice-Chair.

The Chair (Mr. Aris Babikian): Okay, we have a nomination. Are there any other nominations? Seeing none, shall the motion carry? All in agreement, please raise your hand. Any opposition? Seeing none, the motion is carried.

I now call upon you to appoint a Second Vice-Chair. Is there a motion? MPP Dowie.

Mr. Andrew Dowie: I move that member Jonathan Tsao be appointed as Second Vice-Chair of the committee.

Appointment of subcommittee

The Chair (Mr. Aris Babikian): The next item on the agenda is the appointment of the subcommittee on committee business. Is there a motion? MPP Dowie.

Mr. Andrew Dowie: I move that a subcommittee on committee business be appointed to meet from time to time at the call of the Chair or at the request of any member thereof, to consider and report to the committee on the business of the committee;

That the presence of all members of the subcommittee is necessary to constitute a meeting;

That the subcommittee be composed of the following members: the Chair as Chair, member Rudy Cuzzetto, member Sol Mamakwa and member Jonathan Tsao; and

That substitution be permitted on the subcommittee.
